Beyond the Obsidian Veil
Traditional Faery Witchcraft- The Twilight Path
The Fae are sacred Earth Spirits of Nature which enliven all that is Nature. her vehemence and beauty- the belief of ‘Animism’ (‘Anima’ meaning soul: that spirits or souls do not just reside in humans, but also in animals, plants, rocks, rivers, the weather, mountains, forests) strongly speaks the way of the Fae, that all things have a resonance of life. It is important to remember when working with the Fae that you think as everything as being ‘One’, one heart, one mind, one soul; everything is connected and everything breathes with the same breath of life. We share a complimenting element of spiritual nature which draws the Fae to us; an affinity of empathy and likeness that fascinates them to a point of wanting to communicate. They may interact with us through art, dance, music, poetry and magick. It is quite exhilarating working with the Fae, my preferences resides with the ‘Shee’ or more commonly known as the ‘Sidhe’, their energies of vibrant purples, blues and reds are commonly taken in photographs in and around my home. The ‘shimmery folk’ in their beautiful grandeur of wisdom, who are also reminiscent of mischievous children with a glint and twinkle in their eye, things vanishing and I am forever asking for things back, amber rings, the tops of my oil potion bottles and other trinkets of divine exquisiteness.
It is easy for us to befriend the Fae, our worlds only exist outside the other and the ‘Otherworld’ their world is a mirror image of ours except our is bewildered: all the magick and enchantment long forgotten. There are many tales of the Fae and nefarious deeds towards mortals. Generally speaking, they mistreat because in turn they feel mistreated- their retribution with gnashes of tiny faery teeth, knotting hair and tripping people can be quickly restored with a little love, respect and care. Treat our magickal friends like we would prefer to be treated, respect nature and all her elements, leave small offerings of milk, honey, bitter ale, absinthe, and honey/passionfruit/lemon butter with fresh baked bread or cakes to sweeten the deal. Faery sugar and absinthe are the favourite of the resident ‘shimmers’ that is left religiously outside. When I read on Facebook this morning about Faery articles wanted, I thought to myself “Shall we dance in the light beneath the obsidian veil, skip from our world to the place where the Shee-folk hail. Fields of flowers, midnight sun and twinkling stars, Twilight halls, haunting tune beguiled of Mars” a vision of the ‘Otherworld’ greatly different from many I have read, an experience of my own blessed to be shared.
Methods to become more in tune with the Fae energies requires altering your awareness, a ‘Dream State’ the gloaming between being awake and slumbering. Beyond the glimpse of an eye, senses of being watched, a perfumed scent of wind that caresses your check, a kiss, a wayward crystalline tear that forms and trickles down your face or the sound of tiny silvery bells on the wind- subtle divine touches that move us and cause a reaction beyond mortal conception. Faery Magick is all about tapping the effervescent vibrant energies of the Fae, the energy may come in numerous forms from benign to hostile so it is important to know what Fae energy is more connected to you, just like people, some we get along with and others we do not... this is the typical Law of Attraction. You do not need fancy tools, elaborate incenses, chanting or invocation to work with these marvellous creatures for true magick is a ‘natural’ state, a spiritual state of mind, perception and being. Your imagination soars on tendrils of psychic thought form, call it what you will, ‘dreaming’, ‘meditation’ or ‘trance’ that is where magick is born.
